Volunteering Week: The Power Of Giving

Last week was volunteer week and Accio took part in some environmental preservation work in our local area, booked really easily through Hands On London!

Volunteering locally is one of the easiest actions you can take to contribute to causes you believe in and give back to your community. Organisations make it very accessible to volunteer in your area - you can take part in a clean up, help with replanting bee friendly plants to encourage pollination or even become a member of GoodGym and do a good deed whilst working out!

But why does volunteering matter?

As well as giving back, volunteering has been shown to have a hugely beneficial effect on the volunteers themselves.

Volunteering is a great way to:

  • Connect with others - to meet new people, make friends and feel a part of your community.

  • Build self confidence and self esteem - we gain a sense of purpose and identity from doing good in our community. Our regular routine is given a much needed shake up and we feel a sense of accomplishment as we get pushed out of our comfort zone.

  • Improve physical and mental health - taking part in something that helps others, being a part of a team and completing a task from start to finish helps reduce stress, lower blood pressure and combat feelings of loneliness and depression.

  • Advance your career - Stand out from the crowd with volunteering; it shows potential employers you have initiative and will give you the chance to practise skills like teamwork, problem solving and organisation.

Are you going to sign up to volunteer this month? Make a day of it! Together, we can make home an even better place.
